Cardboard Drink Carrier to Pen Organizer

I have this obsession with writing utensils. You know the feeling when you get a brand new marker or pen and you just scribble your name out on notebook paper? Yeah, that one? I love it.

Let’s just say I have a few markers/pens/pencils hanging around my desk and I’m always on the look out for more. When you have that many markers though, you need a way to organize them. I’d already restyled a flat rate box for all of my Sharpies and Bics, which you can see here, but I had a few things that needed a better home.

I was a bit inspired by Kam’s DIY Supply Holder, only I restyled my cardboard drink carrier a bit differently.

I decided to turn this into a scrap-busting project and use up some of my many patterned paper scraps. So, I cut a bunch of scraps (made a small dent in my stash) into 1-2″ strips and mod-podged them onto the box.

I’ve got this cube shelf right next to where I work, where I have all my little organizers. It’s so handy to have everything within reach! Also, in case you’re curious the box on the top left shelf was a USPS flat rate box, the top right shelf is the beer carrier I restyled today and the box on the bottom left shelf was a shoe box that I altered and covered in Gelli prints.

What are you favorite pens and markers? Here’s some of mine:

  1. Sharpies (of course!)

  2. Bic Mark-its

  3. PITT Pens

  4. Stampers Big Brush Pens

  5. Watercolor Pencils and Aquarelles

  6. Crayons

  7. White Gelly Roll

  8. Prisma Markers

  9. Distress Pen

  10. Micron

  11. Posca Markers

  12. #2 Pencil

Like I said at the beginning of this post… I have this thing for writing supplies. 😉
