Art Journaling- Sketches and Gelatos
I recently saw this quote in Dan’s art journal by Martin Luther King Jr.- “Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted.” I really liked it, so I wanted to use it in my own journal.
I didn’t go out looking for a Martin Luther King Jr. quote to use, it’s just coincidence that yesterday was MLK Jr. day.

I actually drew the girl a few years ago in my sketchbook, (she’s inspired by the girl on the cover of this book.) but I ripped the page out to use in my art journal for this page. She was done in pencil, but I wanted her to stand out a bit more so I went over her features with a grey fine point pen.
All of that color is my current favorite medium- gelatos! I colored around her with different colors and than used a wet brush to smear them around and brush them out away from her, so that she was still black/grey and white. I finished my journal with the quote and some doodling.

I’m super pleased with this page! It looks exactly how I pictured it in my head, which doesn’t always happen.
Do you ever just find a quote and know you need to use it?
