Book Review- Anywhere, Anytime Art: Gouache by Agathe Singer

Have you ever used Gouache? I have in the past, and honestly I didn’t love it. But I recently found this book all about Gouache at my library so I thought I’d give it a go again. The book: Anywhere, Anytime Art: Gouache: An artist’s guide to painting with gouache on the go! by Agathe Singer What is Gouache? Firstly for anyone who doesn’t know, Gouache is a paint that is a bit of a cross between acrylics and watercolors. Like watercolors, the paint is mixed with water before u

How to Swatch your Watercolor Pan Set

Hey everyone, I recently made a swatch of some of my watercolors and wanted to show you the process, in case you’re curious about doing it for your own pan sets. Today’s post is also a bit of a product review, because I just bought this watercolor tin palette, and  since I’ve gotten some questions about it on instagram, I’m doing a review! Let’s start with the swatching: Step 1: Start by cutting down a piece of watercolor paper to fit into the lid of your palette. Step 2: use

    My Experiments with Oil Painting

Hey guys, so today I wanted to talk about my experience with oil paints! In the past I’ve always thought oil paints looked really neat, but I was always to scared to try them out even though I wanted to try them. I didn’t know much about them, other than they’re what fancy artists used, and they took a lot of work to clean up (at least in my mind) so they were very intimidating. But then I got a set for Christmas, so I decided to give them a go. If I mess up, no big deal, rig

    #The100DayProject Update: 1-10

Now that we’re 10 days into the 100 Day Project, (I talked about my goals for this project here.), I wanted to do an update showing you the first 10 postcard paintings I have completed. I’m not doing any specific themes for my paintings, just doing whatever I feel like on each day. That said, there will obviously be a lot of galaxies and girl portraits throughout the project. The 3 girls I did this week: My favorite from the week: Bob Ross. He’s my hero. And my two watercolor

    My #The100DayProject

I’m writing this post to announce that I’m joining in on the 100 day project. If you haven’t heard of it, #The100DayProject is a movement started by @elleluna, you can learn more about the project here. It’s pretty simple though, you decide on a theme and just create for 100 days, starting today, April 3rd. (Although you can certainly start whenever you want!) Okay, so I debated whether or not I even wanted to join in on this challenge. As a full time artist, I create everyda

    30 Days of Watercolor- Completed!

For those of you wondering how I did on my 30 days of watercolor challenge, I wanted to let you know that I finished it! And I successfully did one watercolor every day in October! There were a couple of days when it was about 8:30 at night and I realized I hadn’t done one yet. I’m not a night person, so the thought of staying up to paint wasn’t all that pleasant, but with some encouragement from facebook (my friends, obviously) I did it anyway! Here is a little collage of al

30 Days of Watercolor- Week 1 Check in

If you missed my announcement I am doing 30 days of watercolor paintings this month. It’s been over a week of colors and painting so I thought I’d check in. I’m painting whatever strikes my fancy each day, be that portraits, pets, nature or random designs. This past week it’s definitely been random. I think if I do this again, I may come up with a set of prompts before hand to stick to. Day 1: A cactus painting plus some crazy brushstroke patterns. Day 2. A Bobcat. Crazy stor

    The Magical Gnome Forest Mural

Hey guys, so I am still unpacking my studio after our cross-country move but I wanted to share something really exciting that I did back in May- I painted my first mural! My Aunt (who own an earth ship and lives in Colorado) asked me to paint a mural along the stairway to her root cellar. She is a lover of fantasy so it is a magical gnome forest mural, with fairies, gnomes & more! Of course because I never doing anything too simple it is pretty detailed for being in such a sm

Paint + Paper- Tweed Dino Art

Hey everyone, Happy Wednesday! Today’s Paint + Paper post is all about the paint. I painted a series of canvases featuring Velociraptors on bicycles. Here’s the story behind these: My Parents and I did the Fort Worth Tweed Ride last month and I wanted something cool to wear that wasn’t normal “tweed” but still fit the theme. I saw this Velociraptor on pinterest and decided I needed to design a tweed dinosaur. So I drew up my own version and painted him on to a sweater vest an

    Adventures in Watercolor Portraits

Good morning everyone! Today I’ve got something fairly new to share- I’ve always loved coloring, colors, markers, crayons, paints, etc. Pretty much any type of coloring medium. I love drawing and I’ve done pencil portraits before but one thing I never really tried was painting portraits. Recently I have been using watercolors (an inexpensive Mr. Huey set, if you’re wondering what brand) to paint pets! I painted the dachshund just for fun (for my Aunt), and then I got the requ
